All Aboard! 112 Russian Cadets Recreate 1955 Image in Life Magazine

You might have noticed a massive tall ship casually parked at the Lonsdale Quay during the Vancouver 2010 Olympics housing 112 Russian cadets.  At 51.3 metres tall, the Kruzenshtern is one of the the tallest sailing ships in the world and its height will force sailors to bring it into Vancouver’s inner harbour at low tide.  The ship was primarily used as a backdrop to promote the Sochi 2014 Winter Games as well as to host delegates and allow for viewings to the public.  To give you an idea of its height, it would clear its masts under the Lions Gate Bridge by less than 10 metres!

We had the pleasure of hosting all members of the Kruzenshtern at the Capilano Suspension Bridge and had a photo opportunity that was too good to pass up!  Here are a few shots of the 112 Russian cadets on the bridge.  We took a similar photo 55 years ago in 1955 of the Canadian Navy members that was featured in Life Magazine.  I think we’ve started a bit of a tradition for ourselves :-)   Enjoy!
