Burn Awareness Week: Children’s Poster Judging

The 14th annual Burn Awareness Week  poster judging contest took place this year at the Old Spagetti Factory in Gastown.  We were there along with other sponsors of the Firefighter’s Burn Fund Association to deliberate on the winner of this year’s poster which will be used to promote fire safety across BC.   Capilano has been a proud sponsor for 3 years raising over $80,000 for the cause through our Canyon Lights event in December as well as other initiatives.

Thousands of elementary students from all over British Columbia participated in the contest with fun and lively illustrations that aim to promote safety and help make everyone aware of potentially harmful situations.   This year was the most robost year for the contest with over 1500 entries.  We had a lot of fantastic entries to go through and having appies, drinks, and dinner courtesy of the Old Spagetti Factory, fuelled us throughout the evening!  The winner will be announced shortly by the Firefighter’s Burn Fund Association so stay tuned!

Tall bridge shot

Star light, star bright, it’s once again time for Canyon Lights!  Capilano Suspension Bridge’s annual holiday tradition makes a shimmering return for 2009.  From December 4 – January 2, guests can experience the bridge in a new and magical light, suspended and sparkling high above the canyon.    Canyon Lights is a holiday favourite for the whole family and includes glass-blowing with local artist Malcolm MacFadyen, gingerbread cookie decorating, Kid’s Corner, and the merry melodies of the holiday band.
