Big News! Geo-Tagging Widget Enables Guests to Add Content During Visit

Guests can share their experience at the park with the world via our website. Using Twitter, Flickr, Gowalla, and Foursquare, comments and photos will be broadcasted live via our Community Page.
Having worked at the head office at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, it’s an amazing feeling when you step out and see hundreds and thousands of people on a daily basis in awe and wonder of their surroundings. Everywhere I look, there’s people snapping photos with their cameras and phones, capturing footage, and making their way across the 450 ft shaky bridge.
we wanted our guests to share their splendor and experience with the rest of the world so we created a geo-tagging widget that does just this. When a guest at the park sends a tweet, checks in with Foursquare or Gowalla, or uploads their photos on Flickr and geo-tag’s it, it’ll be broadcasted live on our community page. This way, we’ll always have fresh, dynamic content created by those that make this park so exceptional, our guests!
So next time you’re in the park, get social and include the world on your experience

Relaxing on the deck of my cabin at Cathedral Mountain Lodge
Most people don’t know that the Capilano Group of Companies which owns the Capilano Suspension Bridge, also owns two beautiful luxury lodges in the Canadian Rockies. This last week I visited Cathedral Mountain Lodge in Field BC and Moraine Lake Lodge in Banff National Park, and entertained the idea of becoming a mountain woman! I didn’t know what I was in for. Never had I felt so immersed in the spectacular peaks and valleys of the great Canadian Rockies. You really have to see it to believe it.

All Aboard! 112 Russian Cadets Recreate 1955 Image in Life Magazine
You might have noticed a massive tall ship casually parked at the Lonsdale Quay during the Vancouver 2010 Olympics housing 112 Russian cadets. At 51.3 metres tall, the Kruzenshtern is one of the the tallest sailing ships in the world and its height will force sailors to bring it into Vancouver’s inner harbour at low tide. The ship was primarily used as a backdrop to promote the Sochi 2014 Winter Games as well as to host delegates and allow for viewings to the public. To give you an idea of its height, it would clear its masts under the Lions Gate Bridge by less than 10 metres!
We had the pleasure of hosting all members of the Kruzenshtern at the Capilano Suspension Bridge and had a photo opportunity that was too good to pass up! Here are a few shots of the 112 Russian cadets on the bridge. We took a similar photo 55 years ago in 1955 of the Canadian Navy members that was featured in Life Magazine. I think we’ve started a bit of a tradition for ourselves
Enjoy!

Capilano Oscars Party Photo Recap
The ‘Oscars’ is an annual event that celebrates the end of the summer season. It is a thank you to all Capilano Suspension Bridge team members and, after food and festivities, recognizes accomplishments within each department. This year’s theme was all about “Camp Capilano”. The Canyon Lookout at the park set the stage for a night of camp songs, S’mores, delicious bites, and a lot of socializing!
The ‘Oscars’ culminates with the presentation of Capilano Scholarships, the Capilanitude Award and the Capilano video. The Scholarships and Capilanitude Award are special presentations from park Owner and President Nancy Stibbard . The Scholarships recognize a team member’s contribution to Capilano and their community in addition to their exceptional academic accomplishment. Capilanitude recognizes someone who Nancy finds invaluable, someone who leads by example. At the end of the evening the video highlights team members at work and at play and offers a lasting memory of summer at Capilano.
It was a fantastic way to wrap up the Summer and acknowledge all of the hard work that goes into making the Park such a magical place. You can see all of the photos from the party here.
